Please join us for these special music performances while Myles is in town!
It's always a joy when Myles gets to come "back home" from NY and we have opportunities to play music with the WHOLE family. Here are a few opportunities for YOU to have a listen and hang with us!
Sunday, October 13th, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. - Myles and Emma Sloniker will join us for special music at our Paths of Heart Gathering. We'll have a potluck in the backyard afterwards. More info at pathsofheart.org
Sunday, October 13th, 6 -9 pm at Ace Gillett's Lounge (underneath the Armstrong Hotel in downtown Fort Collins) - Myles and Emma will join me at my "house gig" at Ace's and Colleen will sit in some, too!
Thursday, October 17th - Why not throw a house concert into the mix? We had so much fun at our Garden Party at the Cooper's house a couple of weeks ago (thanks SO MUCH to the 70 or so folks who showed up, even as rain threatened, but then held off till we finished!), but we missed Myles! So we'll have an early show with the whole family (INSIDE) at our house, 117 Evans Drive, Fort Collins at 6:30 pm and do one long set, till 8 pm. Doors will open at 5:45 and you are welcome to bring some light snacks or finger food to share and a beverage of choice. Some wine and beer will be provided. Suggested donation is $25 at the door, or you can pay in advance with Venmo @Colleen-Crosson or paypal (colleencrosson@gmail.com). RSVPs are appreciated.
Hope to see ya at one or more of these events!

Howdy E-friends ~
Here's one last shout out for our Garden Party/House concert coming right up!
Saturday, September 21st, 6 p.m. (optional 5 p.m. potluck)
This is year number 4 for our Garden Party/House Concert with our friends Sam and Lee Cooper. This time, it's a little later in the season - actually on the cusp of the Fall Equinox, so we'll start earlier in the evening than in years past. It'll be on Saturday, September 21st at 6 pm. Please join Mark Sloniker, Colleen Crosson, and Emma Sloniker for a variety of original and cover songs in jazz, folk, and pop styles. We'll have an optional potluck beforehand starting at 5 in the Cooper's lovely, magical backyard. Some wine and beer will be provided; bring a dish to share and other beverages of choice, or just come for the concert. Please bring your own chairs or a blanket to sit on. $20 (or more if you’re moved!) suggested donation at the door. There's plenty of room so we're not requiring pre-payment but you are welcome to do so with Venmo @Colleen-Crosson or paypal (colleencrosson@gmail.com) if that's easier for you. We would love RSVPs anyway so we can get a sense of the numbers, and we'll give you the address when you rsvp, too. :-). 970-484-9600 or colleencrosson@gmail.com for more info or questions.
We know there are always lots of events and entertainment to choose from and we'd be so honored for you to choose this one!
Musically yours, Mark, Colleen, and Emma

I know it's been awhile since you've heard from me! I'm still playing at Ace Gillett's beneath the Armstrong Hotel in downtown Fort Collins most Sunday nights from 6-9 p.m. (thanks to all who continue to come out and listen!) and teaching a good bit throughout the week in my home studio (get in touch if you're interested in lessons!). Every so often a special opportunity arises and here's one we're delighted to tell you about:
We've firmed up details on our “annual” (I believe we’re on year 4!) Garden Party/House Concert with our friends Sam and Lee Cooper. Howdy E-friends ~
Myles Sloniker is coming to town (Santa's not the only one!) and will be playing some gigs with me and the rest of the family as well!
Here are the details:
This Thursday, Dec. 21st, Myles and I will perform together at Jay's Bistro 6-9pm. We'll play some standards and originals and throw in some holiday tunes, too.
We're also playing our annual Christmas Eve concert with Colleen Crosson and Emma Sloniker at/for Paths of Heart. The music starts at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6:30. You must RSVP for this one and we only have about 10 more spots open, so let us know soon if you'd like to join us! The program will be approximately 75 minutes in length (no potluck on this night, so folks can enjoy other festivities they may have planned).
On New Year's Eve (Sunday, Dec. 31st) Emma Sloniker and I will perform at Ace Gillett's from 5 until 8pm. So if you like to jazz things up a little on NYE and still be home before "the ball drops" at midnight then this gig is for You! Hope to see ya!

Myles is making a stop in town between touring and we've arranged for him to play with me at my weekly gigs at Jay's Bistro this Thursday night (5/25) and at Ace Gillett's this Sunday night (5/28)! Both nights the hours are 6-9 pm and we sure hope to see some familiar faces at these gigs. Emma and Colleen might jump up for some vocals, too, during the night!
In other news...
We're sad to report that Ciao Vino is no longer having music on Wednesday nights. I will miss my weekly gigs with Emma! I hope another opportunity arises for us to make musical magic together again soon. Thanks for your support on many a Wednesday night past.
We have several upcoming "Paths of Heart Presents..." House Concerts planned for the summer! The first up is Jeff Plankenhorn from the band "The Resentments" on June 9th. Here are the details for all of them:
Friday, June 9th, 7 p.m. - Jeff Plankenhorn, a wonderful performing songwriter hailing from Austin, TX. $25.00 suggested donation. (still deciding on whether we'll do a potluck before or after the show!)
Sunday, July 23rd, 7 p.m. concert with a potluck at 6. - Buddy Mondlock (a brilliant songwriter and author of "The Kid", one of my all time favorite songs!) from Nashville, TN. $20 suggested donation.
Friday, August 4th 7 p.m. concert with potluck at 6 - Megan Bee, our friend and songwriter artist from Athens, OH. This will be Megan's 3rd appearance in our house concert series! $20 suggested donation.
You may pre-pay for any of these concerts on our regular donation page https://www.pathsofheart.org/donate/ OR with Venmo @PathsofHeart. You can also send a check to Paths of Heart, 117 Evans Dr., Fort Collins, CO 80524 Though tickets may be available at the door, pre-paying is the only way to guarantee your seat so it's highly suggested! Please indicate which concert you are paying for in the special instructions or memo line. Hope to see you!
We have also restarted our Paths of Heart Song Circles, usually the last Tuesday of (most) every month at 7- 8:30 pm! We had a wonderful gathering of folks on April 25th, and we hope you'll spread the word! Come join us for group singing in an informal and safe space. You are welcome to bring an instrument and song suggestions of love, life, and peace especially! $5.00-10.00 suggested donation appreciated. We will provide a variety of teas to drink. You are welcome to bring other beverages of choice and snacks if you wish. The following dates are scheduled. Please RSVP!

New Year News!

Howdy E-friends ~
Well, the first month of the year is almost in the rear view mirror. We've been in Nashville and Memphis for the last 9 days, taking in lots of music and visiting friends. But the highlight was seeing our daughter Emma and her band "ThreeShots" compete in the International Blues Challenge on Beale Street! There were over 70 bands (in addition to over 60 solo/duo acts!) participating from all over the country and the world, so the competition was stiff! Though they didn't advance past the quarter finals, they had an amazing experience and are sure winners in our minds! What a time we had...
Now back to the home front, where my three weekly gigs are waiting for me:
Wednesday nights with Emma Sloniker at Ciao Vino (corner of Jefferson and Linden in Old Town Fort Collins), 5:30-8:30 pm (new time!), piano and jazz vocals.
Thursday Jazz@Jay's (just west of Oak Street Plaza), 6-9 pm, Solo Piano.
Sundays @ Ace Gillett's (beneath the Armstrong Hotel) 6-9 pm, Solo Piano.
I'm excited for our upcoming "Paths of Heart Presents..." House Concert on February 11th, featuring Colleen Crosson and me performing lots of love songs to celebrate Valentine's Day in our concert space at 117 Evans Dr. in Fort Collins. There is a suggested love offering of $20 per person and we do appreciate RSVPs. If you’d like to donate in advance, you can do so with venmo: @PathsofHeart or paypal: https://www.pathsofheart.org/donate/ (mention “concert” in special instructions) or by sending a check to Paths of Heart at 117 Evans Dr., Fort Collins, CO 80524. Thank you! The concert will start at 7 with a potluck of “finger foods” at 6 for those who’d like to come early and visit pre-concert. We hope you can come!
I will also be doing a special night at Jay's for Valentine's Day on Tuesday February 14th from 6-9 pm.
We have restarted our Paths of Heart Song Circles, the last Tuesday of (most) every month at 7 - 8:30 pm! Come join us for an informal gathering of singing together. Bring your "life affirming" song suggestions. $10 suggested donation.

Fall/Winter Updates

Slonjazz Newsletter
How did it get to be closing in on the end of the year?? The holiday lights in Old Town Fort Collins switched on this weekend and we are heading into that festive season. We've got some festive music events coming up, too, so here's some things we hope you'll add to your calendar!
The concert/special event "arm" of our non-profit, "Paths of Heart Presents..." has a host of monthly events planned, the first of which is a Gratitude Concert with the Sloniker/Crosson Clan (featuring Myles and Emma Sloniker with their parents!). It's scheduled for Saturday, November 19th at 7 pm at 117 Evans Dr., Fort Collins. We'll be singing lots of songs of THANKS as well as other favorites. We'll have a pre-concert potluck at 6 pm if you want to join us for that, and then we'll do one long set of music for ya! You're welcome to hang out and chat with us for a bit afterwards as well. This is a benefit for Paths of Heart and we are suggesting a $30 donation for the concert (give more, or less, depending on your circumstances/desires!). There is limited seating, so you can guarantee your spot by prepaying with venmo: @PathsofHeart or paypal: https://www.pathsofheart.org/donate/ (mention "concert" in special instructions). Checks are welcome, too, and can be sent to the mailing address at the foot of this email.
On Sunday, November 20th, we'll be hosting a special night of jazz at Ace Gillett's in downtown Fort Collins from 6-9 pm, with Myles and Emma Sloniker joining me for the night and Colleen Crosson sitting in here and there, too. This'll be a whole different scene than the house concert, so we encourage you to come if you'll miss us on Saturday night, or if you want more of the club/jazz vibe. Or come to both events! :-)
My current weekly house gigs are:
Wednesday nights with Emma Sloniker at Ciao Vino (corner of Jefferson and Linden in Old Town Fort Collins), 5-8 pm (new time!), piano and jazz vocals.
Thursday Jazz@Jay's (just west of Oak Street Plaza), 6-9 pm, Solo Piano.
Sundays @ Ace Gillett's (beneath the Armstrong Hotel) 6-9 pm, Solo Piano.
Other "Paths of Heart Presents..." events to add to your calendar:
Saturday, December 24th, 7 pm - We are pleased to welcome the return of our Christmas Eve Celebration, with songs and readings from various traditions during the Season of Light and Peace! Emma and Myles Sloniker will be there to share in the music, and perhaps another guest or two as well.
Saturday, January 14th, 2023, 10 am - 4 pm - a "Write with Your Heart" Playshop: Communing with The Muse ~ A simple, sweet day of community, creating space for inner exploration through music, journaling, art, silence, and meditation. More details soon!
Saturday, February 11th, 7 pm - "Paths of Heart Presents..." a Celebration of LOVE. Join Mark and Colleen in a lovefest of love songs to celebrate Valentine's Day.
We've decided to restart our Paths of Heart Song Circles, the last Tuesday of (most) every month at 7 pm! Come join us for an informal gathering of singing together. Bring your "life affirming" song suggestions. $10 suggested donation.

Fun gigs coming up!

Howdy E-friends ~
It's been yet another long span of time between newsletters, but I have some fun stuff coming up that I wanted to be sure you hear about! We are looking forward to another visit from Myles Sloniker who will be here next week on a short tour with the Jacob Jolliff Band. On one of his off nights, Sunday, June 12th, he'll be joining me at my regular Ace Gillett's gig beneath the Armstrong Hotel from 6-9 p.m. Hope you'll swing by to say hi and have some excellent food and drink while listening to us jam.
Another exciting addition to the family music scene will be Emma Sloniker and I doing some Wednesday nights at Ciao Vino on the corner of Jefferson and Linden in Old Town Fort Collins! Right now, we have June 15th and 29th confirmed, 5-8 p.m. More dates will be forthcoming. Please join us at this intimate Italian wine bar that serves fabulous small plates!
Then, on July 2nd, Emma, Colleen, and I will be doing a backyard garden party/ house concert at the lovely home of Sam and Lee Cooper, 1829 Wallenberg Dr. in Fort Collins. Come for potluck appetizers at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7. We'll end our set in plenty of time for you to head to the fireworks celebration in City Park, too, should you so desire. Bring your favorite beverage and your own chairs or a blanket to sit on, please. There is plenty of room in their backyard paradise, so we aren't even requesting RSVPs this time. Suggested donation is $20 (or more if you're feelin' it!) at the door. If you prefer to pay in advance, we can send you those options, too.
My weekly solo piano house gigs continue with Thursday Jazz@Jay's (6-9pm) and Sundays @ Ace Gillett's (beneath the Armstrong Hotel) from 6-9 as well. I sometimes take a night off from these, so check the venue's schedule to be sure I'm there any particular week that you're headed down for the music.
Most Sunday mornings @ 10:30 a.m. we have our Paths of Heart Gatherings here at the house. We also do a monthly ZOOM Gathering for those who aren't local to the Fort Collins area or who prefer to join from the comfort of their own home. See website below for schedule/more info. All are welcome to join this musical, poetic, conversational hour!

It's been another long span of time between newsletters as there's been nothing new to report besides my regular house gigs (further down the page). However, we are now pleased to announce that Myles Sloniker will be making a short visit here from NYC between touring, and we've decided to host a house concert with the whole family to benefit our non-profit, Paths of Heart. Here are the details, direct from the Paths of Heart Newsletter (and thanks to John Miles for the above creative photo enhancement of an Ava Diamond photo!):
Special Event - April 9th, 7 pm (doors at 6:30)
Paths of Heart House Concert with the Sloniker-Crosson Clan
These past 2 "Pandemic Years" were not particularly kind to the coffers of Paths of Heart, so we've decided to have a concert to give our non-profit a boost! Since space is limited, we are asking folks that'll be attending to prepay, either on our website
https://www.pathsofheart.org/donate/ (with the word "Concert" in the note/special instruction section), or through Colleen's Venmo: @Colleen-Crosson
Suggested donation for the concert is $25 (more if you can, less if it just doesn't fit in your budget!). Feel free to bring a beverage of choice. There will be no intermission but we'll hang out a bit afterwards with some light snacks/finger foods which you are also welcome to bring/share. If you can't come to the concert but would like to contribute anyway, we'll give you 3 of our CDs (you pick!). We hope you will join us!

Howdy E-friends ~
It's been a WAY long time since I sent out a newsletter. What a long strange trip it's been this past year and a half! "Here we grow" is an expression we would say at the beginning of every gig. I think of it as an affirmation that each performance involves a certain amount of uncertainty that can be beneficial to our growth, to the extent that we embrace it and remain open minded and open hearted as the moment unfolds. An improvisational approach invites us to learn and grow as we go...or as the saying goes: "When I know that I don't know, then I am in a place to grow." Here (then) we GROW...
First a big shout-out of gratitude to Colin, Lance and Ryan for inviting me to make music at Jay's Bistro on Thursdays (beginning September 2nd) from 6-9 p.m. What a joy to be back at the Bistro and playing the grand piano I helped select for Jay's a ways back! We hope to see you there!
I continue to play solo piano at Ace Gillett's (beneath the Armstrong Hotel) every Sunday night from 6-9 as well and always love to see your smiling faces there. Rounding out my days are lots of teaching throughout the week and our Paths of Heart gatherings on Sunday mornings at 11 a.m. (leaving just enough time for some bike rides and a kayak paddle or two). Howdy beloved friends and fans!
It's been just about a year since I sent out a music newsletter! The gigs are slowly reappearing and I've been playing every Sunday night at Ace Gillett's since mid February, as well as doing a lot of teaching on Zoom and now again in our home studio. Emma is playing quite a bit with her blues band Three Shots and Colleen has been doing some backyard concerts, weddings, and other private events. Myles is back touring with The Jacob Jolliff Band and we are pleased to have him with us for a couple of days after their show at Cervantes in Denver tonight. AND he'll be joining me at Ace Gillett's tomorrow night!! Colleen, Emma, and I also hope to do a house concert in the backyard later this summer or early fall. That's it for now and we hope to see you at Ace's tomorrow night!

Outdoor Family House Concert - Sunday, 8/30/20, 6-8 pm
8/20/2020
Slonjazz Newsletter
Howdy, beloved friends and fans!
It's been many moons since we sent out any music news, as we have all been on a performing hiatus due to Covid-19 restrictions. Our son, Myles has been with us here for several months (along with his girlfriend, Taylor), as they both yearned to escape the confines of NYC and enjoy the summer in Colorado. What a joy it's been to have the whole family together again for a good long stretch (our daughter Emma lives just across town). We've been having some great adventures (just got back from a Steamboat retreat last night!), yet we thought we'd have done more playing together (even in our own living room) by now and it is almost time for Myles to return to the city. Many of you have told us that you've missed coming to see us, SO we have decided to do a Crosson/Sloniker family concert in our backyard before Myles takes off! We will of course have seats appropriately distanced and masks will be required while everyone is getting settled in. Once seated, and when the concert begins, masks may be removed. We will not have our usual potluck style intermission, however folks are invited to bring their own snacks and drinks to enjoy during the concert. We plan to do two 45 minute sets with a half hour intermission. Masks will again be required as folks are moving about during that time.
Since this event will have very limited seating (we still have to determine how many people we can fit!), we are asking that folks pay in advance. There is a suggested donation of $20 per person, however, knowing that these are hard times for many, we will trust your own judgement on what is affordable for you. Please RSVP first, and we will respond with payment instructions. We are really looking forward to playing some music for you - it's been WAY too long!
See ya soon! Mark, Colleen, Myles, and Emma

Here's our line-up for this Wednesday through Saturday night in The Sunset Lounge (5th floor of The Elizabeth Hotel,111 Chestnut St., Downtown Fort Collins) :
Wednesday, March 4th (7-11 pm) - The Sunset Duo of Max Williams/bass and Mark Sloniker/piano liven up The Sunset Lounge.
Thursday, March 5th (7-11 pm) - Emma Sloniker/voice, Jo Asker/bass, and Mark Sloniker/piano jump through hoops to bring you excellent music at The Sunset.
Friday, March 6th (7-11 pm) - Top seeded players Alyson Agemy/sax, Max Williams/bass, Oscar DeZoto/drums, and Mark Sloniker/piano grace the 5th floor lounge.
Saturday, March 7th (7-11 pm) - The main draw at The Sunset Lounge this night is Joel Harris/sax, Max Bezanson/bass, Bobbie Weins/drums, and Mark Sloniker/piano.
In case you hadn't heard, sometime during the renovation of Ace Gillett's, the "powers that be" decided to cut live music on Wednesday and Sunday nights, so The Family Sloniker is no longer playing there. Stay tuned for other fun musical adventures that may arise!
Looking ahead: Myles Sloniker will be back at The Sunset Lounge March 11th-14th, doing an "Artist in Residence" of sorts with the NY based group he toured with in Korea and Japan last year, The Hyuna Park Trio, http://groovyhyuna.com/new-index We highly recommend seeing this group!
Thanks for supporting live, local music and madness!

So, come on up to the 5th floor of The Elizabeth Hotel (111 Chestnut St., Downtown Fort Collins) in The Sunset Lounge this week (through Saturday night) from 7-11 pm and give a listen.

Friday, November 8th (7-11 pm) - Head on up to the 5th floor of The Elizabeth Hotel to hear Emma Sloniker/voice, Max Bezanson/bass, Oscar DeZoto/drums, and Mark Sloniker/piano.

Sunday, November 10th (7-11 pm) - Yes, we thought we'd be having some time off from Ace Gillett's because of planned renovations, but they've decided to postpone that again till at least January!
